Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of your pet. There are times when you know your pet has an urgent medical need, and then there are times when you are worried but unsure if it is an emergency requiring immediate care.

We do our best to treat and accommodate as many patients as possible, especially in emergencies. However, there are certain situations where going directly to an emergency care facility is the best option for your pet.

When to Seek Emergency Veterinary Care:

  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea – more than two episodes in a 24-hour period
  • Refusal to drink water for 24 hours or more
  • Lethargy or unconsciousness
  • Choking, difficulty breathing, or nonstop coughing and gagging
  • Bleeding from the nose, mouth, rectum, coughing up blood, or blood in the urine
  • Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn’t stop within 5 minutes
  • Inability to urinate or pass feces (stool), or obvious pain associated with urinating
  • Injuries to your pet’s eye(s)
  • Seizures and/or staggering
  • Open wounds or lacerations
  • Fractured bones, severe lameness, or inability to move leg(s)
  • Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
  • Heat stress or heat stroke
  • You suspect or know your pet has eaten something poisonous
