Working To Keep Your Pet Happy And Healthy.

What to Expect During Your Pet’s First Visit to Urban PetRx

Whether you have a new puppy or a kitten, adopted an adult or senior pet, or you are looking for a new veterinary practice to call home for you and your furry friend, our team at Urban PetRx understands how important it is that you get the highest-quality treatment. Upon your first visit with us, we will get to know you and your pet on a more personal level, asking you questions to understand your pet’s history and the goals you have for your pet’s health care. Dr. June LaFave and her skilled team will be happy to answer all of your questions and provide their expertise on how to best treat your pet.

Puppy & Kitten Visits

It’s important to us to help you and your new family member get off to the best possible start. We are happy that you chose our experienced team to kickstart your life of happy memories together! During the initial appointment, we will examine your new cat or dog and collect important information such as weight. We will then listen to their heartbeat to ensure it is healthy and strong and take their temperature. The initial appointment also includes examining the skin and the coat, looking at the teeth and the mouth, examining the ears and eyes, examining how well your pet breathes, and your pet’s overall body condition.

Other Things That May Be Checked

If you have a dog or a cat that is visiting us for the first time, it’s typically recommended that our vet in Bridgeport and surrounding areas examines a fecal sample to ensure it does not have any parasites. Our team will process the sample or submit to an outside lab so it can be microscopically evaluated. This is especially important in young animals who are still building their immune systems, as it is common for them to have intestinal parasites that can be treated with the right medication. Getting your pet started on heartworm medication is also important, and something that we will discuss with you during your initial visit.

Preparing for the Initial Visit

Once you’ve booked your initial appointment with us, ask our team whether or not you should bring in a feces sample to be tested. You should also know the brand and type of food that your pet is eating, whether or not you feed them any sort of supplement, and come with a list of questions that our team can help answer. If you have any concerns, of course, our team is happy to help address them during your initial appointment.

We know that you want only the best care for your new family member, so we take pride in offering personalized care for your pet’s needs. Thank you in advance for trusting us with the task of providing top-notch veterinary care in Bridgeport and surrounding areas
